These instructions outline how approved academic users can use an Ansys academic license file to support e-learning and remote research due to COVID-19.
As the ASC on your account we grant you permission to download the license and make it available to users at your university via university systems or a university FTP site with your understanding and agreement to the below terms. Please note that this offer is not available in China and Russia.
"You are authorized to obtain multiple copies of the temporary license key provided that a) no person can use more than one license; b) the licenses may only be used by professors and students of the university; c) the use may only be in association with teaching or research; and d) used by individuals who were otherwise using licenses of the Program(s) available on your network (individuals satisfying conditions b, c and d are referred to herein as "Authorized Users"). You are authorized to 1 copy of the license key with each Authorized User for his/her/their own use solely in association with a university class or research. Your right to share the license keys with Authorized Users is contingent on you providing the notice below with the license key to each Authorized User and subject to US export law restrictions. You will not otherwise share the temporary license key to any other person nor will you disclose the location of this page on the customer portal with anyone.
This temporary license key is not to be distributed, downloaded or made accessible to any other individual. It may only be used by you, the recipient, solely in connection with your university class or authorized university research."
Should you choose to save the file to a different directory, please make note of that new file location so you can replace the text in quotes in the setx commands below with the new file location
Are there any applications that are known not to work with this license file? No, none.
How do I get a Customer Portal account? The ASC on your account has access to the Customer Portal and should log in to access the download for your university. You should reach out to them or your Ansys Account Manager who can help connect you with them. If you are the ASC you can access the Customer Registration link.
I have a Customer Portal account but I’m not able to log in. Use this link for common login issues.
I would like to use an earlier version than 2020 R1. Will this license file allow me to use it?
The license file has been built and tested for 2020 R1. It may work with previous versions, but support is only provided for 2020 R1.
Are there any best practices for moving to 2020 R1?
You should back up your pre-2020 R1 projects to maintain access in prior versions. Once projects have been saved in a new release of Ansys, they may no longer run with past releases.
